Can anyone tell me where I could get some written information on how to operate a C-arm? I'm a new senior student about to have an OR rotation. We aren't taught how the thing maneuvers in class and I don't want to go in the OR and be completely clueless as to how to operate the C-arm, much less simply "drive" it into the OR. Doesn't it have brakes?
I like to be prepared and I cannot find anything online about C-arms. (i.e., where the locks are, what handles, knobs do what, etc.)
Thanks. I need all the help I can get! |

Although vendors websites contain information about their products, actual specs of the equipment are not usually available there.
As a student, however advanced, you're not likely to be posted to the OR solo.
Prior to your rotation, ask one of the technologist who regularly rotate through the OR to find you a copy of the operations manual. That'll help.

I'd assume that while in the hospital they'd give you a crash course on C Arm operation prior to it's use. I'd request a test drive with it before entering the OR. While in the OR, remember, the surgeon will GUIDE you. Anything he or she has to say negatively is venting, and nothing more. Taking it off the shoulder and accepting it as nada is a great way to gain the confidence of the staff, and within yourself.
Cheers! |
