Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I just got finished with my training for ultrasound tech, I also found out I was pregnant and I am having a tough time finding a job. I was interested in also becoming a cat scan tech so I would have more options in the future. How can I go about becoming a cat scan tech since I already have the education behind me. What courses do I need to take? Who can I contact to get more information on continuing my education? Thank You for your help!!

I'm afraid you're mistaken.

Unfortunately, you do NOT have"the education behind you". What you have is the education behind you that supports becoming an ultrasound technologist.

CT is totally different, it is radiation dependant, which is not the same as sound-wave dependant.

You must complete an educational program and sit for the national exam to become an RT (Radiologic Technologist) before specializing in CT.

You do not need to become an RT to enter Nuclear Medicine, sonography, radiation therapy or MRI. However, each of these modalities have educational requirements of their own, and schooling usually takes 2 years (there might be some MRI programs that can graudate you in a year, but all the others are 2-year programs).

Ultrasound training is terrific if you want to perform ultrasound. It's not useful if you want to perform other imaging modalities.

For information about accredicted radiologic educational programs, check the ARRT website here www.arrt.org There is a navigation bar on the left .. click education/primary certification.
