Hello everybody! I'm a 38 year old former Marine, Law Enforcement/Corrections Officer. I'm starting back to college in August(last time I stepped foot on a campus was 1988) at a community college in KY and I'm very interested in the Radiology program but I'm nervous as hell being so "old" going back to school and I guess I'm having the "fear of the unknown" thing going on. I would love to hear some "going back to school success stories" if anyone has any. The main worry I have is that I've never done anything other than Military-Law Enforcement thing and I hope I don't have an identity crisis(sp)(as dumb as that sounds).Anyway, I really love this site, it has so much info. Thanks in advance. |

Welcome!
I can't help with your identity crisis feeling, but at age 38 you are not too old to go back to school! I just graduated from Rad school, and there were people in their 50's in my class. The ages ranged from 21-53. It seems like a lot of Rad programs have a wide age bracket.
Good luck! |

Whats up daddyboo. Im 29yrs old and was also in your situation. I was prior Security Forces in the Airforce and definetly did not want to become a cop in L.A. Trust me your age does not matter. To be honest with you I actually think it is an advantage. I've already seen students fail and drop out because of immaturity to be responsible or spent all that money and time then decided it wasnt for them. Good luck brotha. |

I have to echo iampstudent
I've taught in a few programs, and my favorite students are those who are older and changing careers.
IN GENERAL (don't get upset, kids), older students are more focused and motivated than younger students straight out of high school.
(They also usually don't ask "will this be on the test?" - my LEAST FAVORITE QUESTION. If I could have failed students who asked that, I'd have done it).
