|
I don't know anything about the modality itself, but I am a huge baseball fan.
Anyway, I came across a picture on the internet that supposedly is of Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez's shoulder. Could somebody please look at tell me if this:
A) Looks authentic
B) A diagnosis, please.

This is a poor quality image. But from the looks of it, there is shoulder joint effusion tracking to the subacromial bursa- it might be a case of rotator cuff tear (tear of the supraspinatus tendon) |

i think here is supraspinatus tear as it could not be traced. But need more images to confirm my findings. |

Ouch, it looks very painful. Looks like he tore his muscle at that point. I wonder who the baseball player is anyways. I hope he gets better. |

There was a question from someone wondering if this post was a violation of HIPAA laws. What does everyone think? I wonder if this falls under the celebrity/public figure area like photographing and writing about them?
I think it's ok since it's a public figure and most likely is not even an image of his shoulder since he's been pitching fine.

hmmm you have to wonder why .. if this is actually an image that came off the internet, why a NJ radiographer would post a single image to an anonymous forum to get an opinon, rather than show to their rad.
Against the letter of HIPAA? Obviously not. But it certainly flirts with violating the spirit.
The point is that people ought to be able to trust that their private medical information is safe and kept private.
For those of you who think that because "it's a public figure and most likely is not even an image of his shoulder since he's been pitching fine" please - you need another course in HIPAA! Whether or not a person is a public figure has nothing to do with anything. Please re-read the standards for patient privacy. |
