Hi,
there is an example of moving jaw technique on this page http://wikiradiography.com/page/The+AP+Odontoid+Peg+View.

There are also some examples of breathing technique here http://wikiradiography.com/page/Applied+Radiography+-+by+M.J.Fuller

Cheers,

I have put some notes on breathing technique on wikiradiography here http://wikiradiography.com/page/Applied+Radiography+-+by+M.J.Fuller. It can be used more widely than what you might think

Methinks there is an error here somewhere ...

Anyone else think so?

Yup. I was taught to use the same technique as a LAT T-spine, and according to my Merrill's, Vol 1, 10th Ed., "If the patient can be sufficiently immobilized to prevent voluntary motion, a breathing technique can be utilized. In this case, instruct the patient to practice slow, deep breathing...." Wink

Chewing is not for the odontoid! Ottonello indeed. I would use a breathing technique on my swimmers, lateral t-spine, rao sternum. I've even seen it done on ribs, but I don't like that and the patients tend to move too much. enjoy

For the students who don't know an ottonello, its an AP projection that allows complete visualization of the c-spine. It requires a lot of exposure time and the patient tends to move the head too much. Also, I guess you could move the jaw for an odontoid. Never thought of that. Cool
