Hello all, I am very new to the field (this is my 2nd week in school) but I ran across something in another website and wondered if it was true. Have any of you heard that there is a higher incidence of brain tumors for MRI techs than normal? I have looked all over the web but I cant find anything about it. I would love any feedback on this.
Thanks

While I have not heard of an increase in B Tumours or statistic involving such .I think that such side efects if any would not show up for at least 20+ YRS.MIR has not been about long enough. How ever us older radiographers have possible side effects from manual processing chemicals( fixer & silver recovery) plus possibly Gluteraldahyde used in the early days of processing machines ( Gl is now banned and not used in modern processors.)
have side effects from chemicals OH&S regulations except for radiation safety was in those days virtualy non existant.
Many of us oldies especialy charge radiographers in smaller hospitals also suffered from stress problems because we were often required to work long hours plus be on call 24/7 I personaly including mysellf 14 such retired radiographers who have work related problems Plus the normal woes of old a. Last year 3 radiologists I worked for from the days of flourecent screening and Image intensification They all died of thyroid cancer.
I do believe that if we follow the rules of OH&S there working in Radiography esp MRI has no more inherrant hazzards than most jobs. Probably less than many jobs
