A quick question from someone researching the sector--how long does a radiologist normally take to read a preliminary scan? Say you are working an overnight shift, reading ER scans that come to you remotely? Thanks in advance! Anne |

well, first of all, it depends on what type of scan (i think you may mean study) CT's and MRI's typically take the longest since there's so many images, and it will vary depending on the radiologist.
typically, CT's take about 15 minuites to dictate. MRI's can take a little longer, US can probabally be read in 10 minuites if the radiologist does not need more images, and normal diagnostic x-rays usually shouldn't take more than 5 - 10 minuites.
again, this all depends on the radiologist, type of exam, and pathology on the study. for instance, i'm a CT tech. i know that if there's some questionable pathology on my scan, the radiologist may be sitting there for 10 minuites looking at the pathology trying to figure out what it is before he even starts dictating.
hope this helps
