Has anyone had the problem of being registered and an employer allowing you to work for a period of time before having to take boards and or get license? Hospitals dont require a license but va borad of medicine says you cant practice without a license and you will have a reprimand on public record for doing so? Please has this happened to anyone and how do you fight it?
Thanks |

I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused.
You're ARRT registered and the state of Virginia requires a state license in addition ..
The only person responsible for obtaining your professional license is you, not your employer. If you didn't take the necessary steps to be sure you were legally prepared to work in Virginia, how is that your employer's fault?

well I am a new graduate. The employer offered me a position and told me I had 6 months to pass my boards and get my license. I took the boards within weeks then submitted paperwork immediately for a license. So I had no idea that I would run into this when the employer told me thats what to do. And like I said you dont have to have a license to work in a hospital just registered so I dont understand why they are saying this. I hope your reply was not meant to be smart as I am just asking if anyone else in VA has run into this. I know other grads in my class who started working right away as well. |

I'm still not sure what your question is.
You're an RT in the State of Virginia. Virginia is a licensure state. Have you reviewed the information from the state regarding their requirements? The FAQ's is helpful here - http://www.dhp.state.va.us/medicine/advisory/rt/faq.asp
Licensure is still the responsibility of the RT, not the employer. If you want to know if you're in danger of reprimand and what your rights are to dispute the reprimand, contact the Virginia Board of Medicine. Their email address is medbd@dhp.virginia.gov , their phone is (804) 367-4400.
All of this information is available on their website
