|
Hello,
My Name is Sheree RT(R,) I Just want to check with any students to see if they are taking the ARRT Exam soon?
I have been a Radiology Tech for 4 years. Just recently like June 2, 2009 I hade to re-take the ARRT Exam, and I passed, with no problem. I was a little worried about taking the exam again because I had been out of school for over 4 year. I did fine and I worried for nothing. I would like to help others who will be testing in the near future and I want to offer any support.
I had the great pleasure of taking the exam twice and passing both the 1st time, I would like to help, and take away any test anxiety you may have.
Ask me a question, ask me anything regarding the exam, I will answer your questions gladly.
Good luck to you all!
Sheree RT(R)
TIP:Two years of schooling is long enough, If you pass all your classes in your Radiology program, you will pass the ARRT Exam! |

Yes, I do not keep up with me CE credits, and when that happens you will have to take the exam over. |

Take notes, youngsters.
This RT posted her experience here so that you wouldn't have to repeat it.

Hi Sheree,
I will be taking the ARRT exam soon.. before the end of August. Nervous about it. Only want to take it once. I have the Lange Review book and have subscribed to the RadRevieweasy website for 2 months for 20.00. I did well in school and passed all my classes fine but honestly, when I read some of the review questions I sometimes don't have a clue to the answer. Feel really stupid! I always read the explanation that goes along with the answers and then it makes sense but at the rate I'm getting thru the book it will be Christmas before I'm ready! Any suggestions? How difficult was the exam? Everyone I have asked has told me the review questions/mock exams were more difficult than the actual exam. I just landed a job and start next week but with the new regulations that state if you have a job and fail the exam you will lose your job immediately I am a wreck! I know how lucky I am to have landed a job in this market- I can't afford to lose it.
Thanks for any suggestions |

I have a few pointers that I can give on preparing for the registry:
1. If you haven't already, memorize the 12 properties of X-rays. Many questions can be answered simply by using Roentgen's 12 properties.
1. Are highly penetrating, invisible rays which are a form of electromagnetic radiation
2. Are electrically neutral and therefore not affected by either electric or magnetic fields
3. Can be produced over a wide variety of energies and wavelengths(polyenergetic and heterogeneous)
4. Release very small amounts of heat as they pass through matter
5.Travel in straight lines
6. Travel at the speed of light in a vacuum (300 million meters per second or 186,400 mph).
7. Can ionize matter
8. Cause fluorescence of certain crystals
9. Cannot be focused by a lens
10. Affect photographic film
11. Produce chemical and biological changes in matter through ionization and excitation
12. Produce secondary and scatter radiation.
Secondly, if you haven't already, look at the precise breakdown of the exam. The exam is extremely structured. There are a certain amount of questions over every topic, on EVERY exam. There is no such thing as an "all math" or all "radiation protection" exam like you may hear some talk about. Here is the link to the breakdown on the ARRT's website:
http://arrtpdf1.s3.amazonaws.com/examinations/contentspecs/RAD_CS_2008.pdf
A. Radiation Protection 20% 40q
B. Equipment Operation and Quality Control 12% 24q
C. Image Production and Evaluation 25% 50q
D. Radiographic Procedures 30% 60q
E. Patient Care and Education 13% 26q
Here are the percents and number of questions per section. It is further broken down into further sub sections. This is a must read!!!! Focus most of your time on the sections with the highest number of questions.
EVERY mock exam is harder than the actual registry. The highest I ever scored on a mock exam was 88% and I passed with a 96%.
Keep in mind that there are NO trick questions on the registry. They are worded very concisely. Do not read more into the questions than is provided.
If there are any concepts that you don't understand, ask them. There are some very good RT(R)'s on this board that would be happy to explain anything, but you have to ask.
Here are a few links to check out regarding Image production and evaluation, if you need a refresher:

Finally,and most importantly, JUST RELAX.
Good luck to you all.
