|
Allow me to introduce my self.
I am an ex-manager trying to get back into the field. I had to leave and go back to staff at the local hospital where my parent lived (and luckily they knew me personally) because a parent got sick and I had to go back and take care of her. Now that has resolved and sheesh.. I have been trying to get back into the field for 2 years.
I also know 4 other managers who have lost their jobs since that time due to downsizing or being pushed out before retirement sort of deal. It's quite a mess once you've gone into management because at that point no one wants to hire you as staff because the manager position is never secure and it is best to not have someone around who has done your job in the past.
So, the problem remains. Once you've gone into management and had to leave, how do you get back in since the job market is dead to anything other than management after that.?
I've decided to try and open a business instead in the hopes I'll find a partner quickly and won't have to get back into management. So, if a job comes through or a partner comes through that's the way I'll go. Since neither seem to be falling from the sky.
So, opinions?

Hi Pete
Sorry, no management here. I'm not a great manager - people who can't behave like adults and just do their job annoy the crap out of me. Makes me short tempered and unhappy, so I am WAY not management material!
After 19 years in direct patient care, I moved over to the IT side of the house. 10 years later, I'm still having a grand time. I get to do software and hardware installs, user support and training .. and my boss is terrific, he lets me do all kinds of stuff. Policy and procedure, workflow analysis .. all of it is fair game. There are still folks who will work hard at figuring out how to NOT do their job, but they annoy me less - they're not my problem.
If I were you? I'd figure that not being able to get back into management means that you're not supposed to be there. That's how things have gone for me. How about teaching? Not tons of money in it, but it's sometimes rewarding. Or, you could go into sales. I know a couple of management types who've done that.
Good luck!

Dang HJ
That was posted about 8 months ago. You just getting around to reading these things now?
Things have gotten much better. I did find partners and open a business. I am doing a 3D reconstruction lab that is a stand alone deal. I may need some of you in the future because even tho I do have an IT guy he's not all that well versed on PACS and DICOM stuff. He's gotten me thru so far but I tihnk at some point we're going to run into an issue he can't do.
So, when you get a few moments check out the website and send an e-mail to one of the address there and we can perhaps pick some braincells apart or at least get to know one another.
