I live in Chicago and want to get my RT license and I'm getting to a point where I been in college for 4 yrs and am still waitint to get accepted into the RT program in a few schools. I don't want to leave the Chicago area and I was wondering if anyone knew of any schools I can do over the web to be able to take the ARRT exam? I have no prior xray knowledge because I know there's that limited scope thing but you have to have prior xray knowledge. If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it thanks.

I have been looking relentlessly for the past few weeks for any school that offers an on line RT program. I have been unsuccessful. I live in a rural area and can take x-rays in the clinic setting but not in a hospital. My employer has given me on the job training and would probably work with me on an externship program but I need to find a school that will work with me. This has been a very frustrating experience. Does any one have any suggestions?

Check out www.radiologyworkers.com for radiology school and job information or try the links on this web search page:

There is no such thing as taking online courses to become an RT. Sorry. In order to be eligible for the national certification exam, you must graduate from a nationally accredited school. And one of the requirements is "X" number of hours clinical experience once you're in school (on the job training in a hospital or other clinic does not count).

To netvamp - it's nice that your employer has been generous, but there are no schools which will substitute your employers training for admittance to a nationally accredited program.

To anetka - the same, sorry. In order to sit for the national certification board exams. you must attend and graduate from a nationally accredited radiologic technology program.

We've made a lot of noise about professionalism - 'we're professionals and we want to be treated that way'. OK, fine, but that means that we have to accept the same educational requirements as other professions. No more on-the-job training. And that's how it is.

Good luck

That's ironic because when I searched the JRCERT site this is what I found:
