I have the opportunity to possibly enter Rad Tech school this year and could use a little advice. I have been so excited about the Rad Tech Program for so long--thinking that it would be a career I would really love, as I love helping people, enjoy working with technology, and think that I would love working at a hospital.
I went today and observed at a local hospital. I observed in the regular x-ray, flouro, and briefly in the CT and MRI departments. Honestly, I was a bit bored. There was a lot of standing around (a lot of chatting among techs) and there didn't seem to be as much to it as I had hoped.
I don't want to take a position away from someone who would really love to do this or spend two years in school if it's not something I could really see myself doing. Did anyone have a similar experience and end up really enjoying the program more once they got started and had more knowledge? Or, is this a bad sign for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

We didn't shadow when I entered the program (1977), so I can't tell you about that.
What I can remind you of is this - you observed, for a VERY short period of time in ONE facility.
Do you think that's really representative of what we do as professionals?
Aaaah, think again.
Shadow again, listen to the folks on this forum, some of whom are current students and have good information about programs, and some long-time committed professionals
