What Radiography Specialty Would Be Best To Learn To Work In The Er?

I am in radiography school right now and I want to work in the ER with trauma patients. Is there even a job like that (specifically in the ER, I mean)? If so, should I specialize in CT or MRI or what? Anyone have any idea?

Plain x-ray techs and CT techs are the main ones we work with. Very occasionally we call in ultrasound, MRI never, and very rarely nuc med. If you’re going for specialty, I’d suggest CT. CT brains and abd/pelvis are ordered all the time, at all hours. I don’t think you can work purely in the ER, just in the radiology dept. The ER patients come to you.

In ER, the most number of radiographic studies deals with plain x ray and ultrasounds. If you had to choose, I would learn both x ray and ultrasounds because they are always needed most in all levels of trauma care and if you decide to do urgent care or outpatient, they will be in high demand. Easy answer will be to start with both of these, and do CT scan tech when possible. MRI are seldomly used in ER, but CT scan are widely used, mainly head, chest and abdominal CT.
