Hello,

I have a Dell Vostro 1720, quite a good laptop. I just installed a new antivirus named Vipre Antivirus Premium. Previously I had MacAfee, but that didn’t find any virusses at all (while Security Essentials found loads).

I know I have a virus, so I was searching for a good antivirus scanner. I found Vipre, and find it good.

Now the thing is, that, it takes ages for Vipre to scan my laptop. Last Monday night, I left it on to scan, hoping it’d be done by the morning, but I woke up seeing that my laptop was still scanning, and it had reached a duration time of over 1000 minutes. That’s more than 16 hours. And it kept on scanning. So I decided to put the laptop in sleep mode (cuz I had to go to school, and I take the laptop with me) and when I started the laptop again, it had a blue screen (so basically, the whole scanning process was lost).

Now, I have about 168GB of used space, and I have 296GB free space left. And yesterday, I started scanning again. My computer is now on for 20 hours, and hasn’t been shut down since then. I was scanning again, but this time in Custom mode (I selected the C:/ drive only). Unfortunately, the cat managed to press the enter key (the laptop was standing on the floor, cuz my desk is full) and so she cancelled the scan.

I now have it scanning again, and it’s scanning for already 174 minutes.
Is it safe for me to keep my laptop on, again, for a whole night, to leave it scan in the hope that this time, it’ll finish a scan? Because I’ve never ever left a laptop on this long. I have no idea if this is bad for the hardware, or anything else.

Could anyone please give me a detailed description of what to do?
Should I shut down the laptop, cancel the current scan (AGAIN) and let it cool down, and then start up a new scan and let it run?

Please, as detailed as possible. I tend to know a lot about computers, but not in this case.
I’m also in a lazy mood so I don’t want to spend my time Googling it.

Thanks. If any further details are required, tell me.
I know how to boot up in safe mode! Hey, it’s not like I don’t know how a computer works man.. I study IT, 2nd year, I’m just too lazy to search for it. And the question was if it’s ok for my laptop to STAY ON THIS LONG, since it now is on for 21 hours.
I didn’t ask for a new antivirus, I just wanted to know whether I have to cool the laptop down or not. I’m not planning on getting a different antivirus. Currently the laptop is on the cold floor, in the hope that it will cool down a bit, but my question is IF IT IS OK FOR THE LAPTOP TO BE ON FOR OVER 21 HOURS. >.<" And don't advise me a different antivirus, it only takes long to scan, but at least I see that it detects things other virusscanners don't find...
Oh and, I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but the virus is so severe that it just shuts down the program whenever I attempt to start it (it's a rootkit... >.<“).
And I don’t plan on reinstalling the laptop, I just had it reinstalled 2 months ago and I just installed all my progra

So, I have just been recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma…..a type of cancer….

I know this is the last thing that I should be worrying about, but my family is, by no means wealthy or well off (and never have been) and neither am I….. I live by myself, going to school part time and work full time…..
Anyway,
I have to go do a CT or CAT scan this Thursday and I have to pay for it myself…. my insurance does not cover it because I have a 12 month pre-existing, which means, since I haven’t had that insurance for 12 months, they will not cover me
I thought that I had good insurance cause I’m a public servant, and it’s insurance issued by the gov’t…..
I live in Tx and they just called me today telling me that I have to pay for the CT scan out of pocket
Anyone know the cost for something like this?

Hi, I was at my allergy, asthma, and sinus doctor this morning.
This is my story: when I was in 4th grade, I started getting tonsilitis about every 2 months. Then 5th grade it stayed that way, 6th grade I got them about every month, then last year in 7th grade I got them so much, my tonsils were huge and I couldn’t breathe well, that I got that removed along with my adenoids. After that I was okay for a while, but then I got sick alot all over again and the health department always said I had a throat infection but my ENT always knew that it was sinusitis infections. Once he even found that I had a staph infection in my sinuses, which was the most painful infection I’d had. I always got put on antibiotics, and choices are limited because I have allergies to ceclor and sulfa drugs. I am in 8th grade now and this has still been going on. I have been on Zepac, Tetracycline, Augmenten, (excuse my spelling), Azithromycin, and even pennicillin once (it didnt work.) I also caught the h1n1 flu, the regular flu, and a stomach bug too, which is unrealated apparently. Anyways in december I got an allergy test, and I only reacted to molds which are bad this year. I am on allergy shots twice a week right now, being treated for asthma also. This morning I was at the AAS (allergy asthma sinus center) and saw my FNP. She hadn’t thought that I needed a CAT scan although my PCP had really pushed one. Today at my appointment I was really drug down becuase I have had a sinus headache for 3 days (imagine feeling like cotton is expanding through your sinuses or that a balloon is slowly being inflated in your sinuses.) Today she said its time to do a CAT scan and see whats wrong. Well I went to school and when my mom picked me up a while ago she said they called, I have a CAT scan on thursday but its out of town because our hospital stopped taking TennCare.(last year when i had surgery i had Cover kids) so I have to go out of town to get my cat scan.
My questions:what is a CAT scan like? please describe it thouroughly. is it like a MRI where your closed in a tube? I am extremely claustrophobic. How long does it take?
Also, what kinds of sinus surgeries are there? I dont reckon I have deviated septum or anything.
Thanks! longest informative answer wins.
ps i dont have a choice. i have the CT scan scheduled and when you have dealt with this so long you run out of options
