My mom got this email from someone in her Sunday School group. Basically, this lady’s son has a malignant brain tumor. My mom graduated from medical school, and is familiar with this sort of thing. Basically, the child is going to die no matter what. He’s lucky to have lived as long as he has, but the placement and the growth of the tumor mean that it’s essentially impossible to get rid of. This lady doesn’t get it.

Okay, so here it goes….yesterday was an emotional, disturbing, and draining day. We were in Nashville Monday to discuss the MRI report with ____’s doctor and he says that even though the center of the tumor is basically dead, the outside of it is still slightly growing. He basically said to keep giving him the enzymes, Protocel and hydrazine sulfate (which we recently added to help his appetite, and is also known to kill tumors). He said any chemo right now is not proven that it would work and radiation could stop the growth or could make things worse due to main arteries being entangled throughout the tumor which could break apart and cause bleeding, etc. or the tumor could grow right through the radiation. So, he then goes on and starts talking about if something “catastrophic were to happen to ____, would you want him to be intubated?” I found this to be shocking that he was talking to me as if he didn’t think ____ would be functioning within 8 weeks (which is when we will be back for his next MRI). I guess since he was seeing no emotion from me, he just kept on about all these “catastrophic” things that could happen until finally I did break down b/c I was so angry that he was talking about my son like that.

I have stayed so strong throughout these whole 3 ½ years, very rarely getting emotional with doctors, and I really think satan is trying to break me this time. We are not giving up, we are going to fight harder than before!

____ is my life, my love, my little trooper, the reason I get up each morning, and I know that God has great plans for him as he gets older. I know there are so many of Gage’s prayer partners out there and words cannot express to you how thankful I am that you have continued to lift him up in prayer throughout these years. Please continue storming heaven with your prayers that Protocel and the other therapies will continue deadening this tumor and that it stops the outside of the tumor from growing and putting excess pressure on him or his brainstem area.

Truly, ______ and ____

P.S.– I am going to be getting some second
opinions from other hospitals/doctors plus some other consultations.
This isn’t about me.

okay dr did a brain scan and stated there was activity in the front left part of the head. gave me epilepsy med and told me to start taking. have not taken the med. had a seizure they said but i had not eaten the whole day – no one has taken blood to see if it is low blood sugar, or perhaps stress. should i get a 2nd opinion and an mri for more detail. I hear the brain or cat scan is not reliable. Went to neuroligist and MD also read what the Neuroligist said and agreed. my job is now affected…..with in the police dept. any comments.

Hi, in 2007 I quit my job with the state ( I was insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield ) I quit to go back to school full-time to better myself and to get more pay in the future. In Aug 2008 I was diag. with Cervical Cancer. I had no Insurance. I applied for a special medicaid. And was granted coverage. I went through radiation and chemo. treatments and seven months later I am slowly regaining my energy and life back. . I have a problem though. I don’t get the same follow-up as other women have in the past after the exact same diag. I talk with other women on-line all the time that have been diag. and have went through treatments of Cervical Cancer. However, after their treatments the ones with Insurance receive pap-tests, blood tests, Cat scans, Pet Scans. I myself have had nothing but two physical exams from the doctor. Not a pap smear, blood test nothing. And he keeps moving my Cat Scan date back three more months. Now Medicaid is trying to cancel coverage because treatments are not active. How do I know If I am even cured? This doesn’t seem fair.

I also confronted my doctor about the pap smears and blood tests this last appointment. He stated that I was beyond pap smears and blood tests. Does any of this seem wrong to anyone else or just me?

Should I just forget the medicaid and worry about cancer again if it ever returns? Also can I ever receive coverage from an Insurance company again?
I didn’t have a hysterectomy. I had stage 1 and no lymph node involvement. All I had was chemo and radiation. So yes he should be doing the pap smears. But, who can I complain to?
Sorry about the repeats in additional information, I am having computer problems.
I agree nothing seems right from day one. He told me I was Stage 1b2 with no lymph node involvement. However, a radical hysterectomy was never discussed. He just said chemo and Radiation. I believe since I had Medicaid he didn’t want to do the hysterectomy. And now he doesn’t even want to give me decent follow up. I feel awful for having medicaid. Until you have it you don’t know how you are treated. But your treatment plans shouldn’t be different. I have always been productive and worked all of my life. One year without insurance coverage will probably most likely take my life way too soon..

I want to go to college and I want to become a surgeon, maybe heart transplant doctor when I grow up. But, I’m in high school now and who knows I might be a general practioner… or something. But, anyways, I don’t know what to major in along with pre-med…?

I DON’T want to go into Bio, Chemistry, or Biochemistry and limit myself to that. What if, God Forbid, it takes me a while to get into medical school… I need a job and what can I do with those majors? Teach? Hell no. lol.

I was thinking Clinical Lab Science… but I heard that there are not many jobs for that and they don’t make much.

So, I’ve been researching Radiation Therapy and really it intersts me…but someone told me that the classes I take in college for that won’t help me too much for medical school.

So, what?
Clinical Lab Science
Radiation Therapy
Medical and Investigative Science…

PLEASE ANSWER my Q.

im in military and i have “soft tissue” swelling. ive had it for about 7 months now. it has slowly surely getting larger. it starts at my wrist and is almost half way down my arm. no real pain associated with it but has started to hurt a little occassionally. ive had an MRI and Xray done and neither showed anything there. ive seen many doctors including orthopedic surgeon and all have said they dont know what it is and that they dont want to biopsy it until it causes a lot of pain or restricts movement. does anyone know if a doctor would be more willing to perform biopsy if i tell him that im getting out of military in 5 months and i plan on getting another job that will require a physical exam. and when they ask me whats on my arm i can only say that i have gotten it checked out and noone can tell me what it is.

I went to another doctor, but it was too late to fix the problem with my elbow- too much time had elapsed due to the orthopedic doctor’s misdiagnosis. Now I will have to have more invasive surgery. What should I do? I was paying for a yoga instructor’s license. Now it may not be possible due to his negligence and incompetence.

My 12yr old son slipped and hurt his ankle. I took him to Urgent Care where they took xrays and told me it was fractured. They put a splint on it and told me to take him to his PCP for follow up and casting the next day when the swelling went down.

His PCP made us wait for ever, then proceded to tell us to go get an air cast because the receptionist didn’t schedule enough time for him to do the cast. Then we had to come back a few days later for a check up. My husband is a personal trainer and has sports medicine training specifically for sports injuries. When I requested a photo copy of the radiology report, to show my husband, the doctor didn’t want to give me one. He gave me a hard time and wanted to just “write it down” like anyone could ever read a doctors handwriting anyway. Finally, I threw a fit and he made me wait another 15min to sign a form to get the copy.

What’s the big deal? I don’t get why the hassle?
By the way, after this, we are going to find a different doctor.
For you first 2, my husband took one look at the report and told me that my son has a bruised bone on the top of his foot and a fracture on the bottom of the bone where the ankle connects to the foot. Reading this report requires no medical history, and my husbands sports medicine training was more than sufficient to understand the terminology of the report.
