I’ve Been Accepted Into Radiation Therapy And Mri Training School. Can’t Decide Which One Has A Better Future?
better career prospects? pay? relocation ? anyone in either of these two careers

Are you already a RT (Radiologic Technologist…the proper term for an x-ray tech)? If you are not, skip MRI school. Most facilities will not hire a person who can do ONLY MRI scans. Employers want to hire someone who can do other imaging modalities, for example, regular x-rays and CT scans. You cannot do those studies if you are not a licensed RT. Many MRI schools are in it to take your money, and they leave you high and dry after graduation, with no job prospects.
Many radiation therapy programs require you to be a RT prior to accepting you to their program. I would check to see if the program, which accepted you, is an accredited program. If not, I would be very hesitant to enroll.
You can search her to find accredited programs. Just search “radiation therapy” and your state:http://www.jrcert.org/cert/Search.jsp
The American Society of Radiologic Technologists just did a large salary survey, in 2007. The salary varies, depending on your experience, specialties and geographical area. To view, the survey, and see the average salary in your state, you can go to this link:https://www.asrt.org/media/pdf/research/…
If you can, I would do an observation in an imaging department before enrolling in any program. It would be a wonderful way to find out first hand what a radiation therapist or MRI technologist does on a daily basis. You would also be able to pick the brains of those in the field, and get their opinions on these two programs. You could end up with some very valuable information. Best wishes…..
I’m not sure but please forgo those private $$ career schools and instead opt for the community college or uni as long as the program is accredited within the industry.
For general info on ‘radiologic technologist’ (x-ray, may also mention radiation therapy and/or mri with some resources): http://www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search.
