You could be a transporter or something like that, and then in your 2nd year you could work as a student tech.

Contact a local hospital and ask what the requirements are for a US tech, make sure the school you choose has an equivalent course.

Yes you can start online. You can do the basic classes online (english, math, biology, history, electives etc) if they offer it,,and most colleges do, if not all now a days. First find a local collage that has the program. Schedule an appointment with the Rad Tech program director so you can get more info on the curriculum. Eventually you'll have to attend class for the practical learning sections and clinicals. Good luck!

The people who work in hospitals are called radiologic technologists, not x-ray technicians. You may be able to take some prerequisite classes online, but accredited radiography programs are generally 40 hours per week for 2 years.

It doesn't matter which institute is the best. As long as your training is up to date and you know how to use the equipment. http://www.michener.ca/ce/postdiploma/ul…
They have suspended their course for 2007. The website says to contact them in October 2007 for a decision about 2008.http://www.ultrasoundtraining.ca/
located in Mississauga
I have not used these institutes.
I did check the main colleges - humber, ryerson, george brown, centennial and seneca. none of them seem to have any radiology program. They all have nursing or public health programs.

Those limited tech programs really screw their students, don't they? And they charge an arm and a leg! I am sorry that you found yourself in this situation. I am unsure about the average salary for a MRI technologist, who is not also ARRT licensed. I have never worked in a facility which uses MRI techs who are not RTs.
However, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists just did a large salary survey, in 2007. You can see how much a RT, with MRI licensing averaged, per year, in your state here:https://www.asrt.org/media/pdf/research/…
The average salary in CA was $83,145.
